The Code 42 Quality Improvement Project
Resurrection Medical Center had a percutaneous coronary intervention within 90 minutes compliance rate 4.8 percent below the goal of 97.1 percent. A code 42 was established through the work of a multidisciplinary team, evidence-based practice and protocols, including a single paging system for the cath team and data feedback to staff. The resulting compliance rate was 94 percent with a mean time to primary PCI of 68 minutes.
This case study is part of the Illinois Hospital Association's annual quality awards. Each year, IHA recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Illinois hospitals in continually improving and transforming health care in the state. These hospitals are improving health by striving to achieve the Triple Aim--improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction); improving the health of populations; and reducing the per capita cost of health care.
Award recipients achieve measurable and meaningful progress in providing care that is:
- Safe
- Timely
- Effective
- Efficient
- Equitable
- Patient-centered
